General Information

Political History and International Relations Department of the Middle East Institute is established in 1992. So far today, 79 Master and PhD students have graduated from this department.

The department’s M.A. and Ph.D. Programs are open to students with an undergraduate degree from humanities and social sciences. However, the knowledge of a Middle Eastern language (Arabic, Hebrew or Persian) would provide an advantage to the applicants during the admission process.

The Political History and International Relations of Middle East Department Graduate Programs aim to offer an interdisciplinary study which the students would gain deep knowledge, insight and different perspectives regarding Middle Eastern issues:

 

  • 19th and 20th Centuries Middle East History
  • International Relations of the Middle East
  • Middle East Politics
  • Political Thoughts and Movements in the Middle East 
  • Religion and Politics in the Middle East
  • History of Islam
  • Political Institutions and Political Parties in the Middle East
  • Conflict and Peace in the Middle East
  • Social Change in the Middle East

 

The Department’s basic objective is to educate the graduate students in issues regarding the Arab World, Turkey, Iran and North Africa and to deepen understanding of this critical region among scholars, students, and the broader public. The Department also aims to to train the researchers and area experts for both public and private sectors, universities, research centers, and archives and libraries.
